So, colour isn’t my tool of choice. But I’ve come to realize that texture is! Over the summer I rekindled my personal love for both textures and textiles – with linens and natural fibres being my most favourite, especially for the warmer weather.

By now you’ve probably seen me, more or less living, in these distressed black skinnies. I can’t help it. They’re basically a staple piece — classic in colour and cut, but trendy enough to funk up my very essential based wardrobe. And I feel good as gold in them because they’re part of a movement towards #ZeroExploitation, something Outland Denim has committed entirely to ensuring with their brand of men and women’s jeans.

Buying Better, And Blundstone

I can honestly say, there’s been a noticeable difference since focusing on more intentional consumer habits. Buying better might just sound like a good saying but it’s really so much more than that. Having only things you love, that are well made, and are entirely functional to your day-to-day living matters.

Weekend Ice-Cream Date

At last! The weekend is here. Friday’s arrival always feels pretty good but the weekends are only getting better with the time change (hello sunshine-y evenings) and spring’s slow but steady creep up. We had temperatures as high as 17°C this week and the boys especially, were in their tee wearing glory (not me because I’m only ever cold).

Monochrome & Hieleven

I almost always go for something free formed, flowing, or oversized and untamed – part personal style and part because it’s kind of the easiest go to, being petite. But when it comes to handbags, I’m obsessed with clean lines and solid shape. It's hard to deny classic structure or style.

Weekend Basics

Weekends are nothing fancy in our household – in fact, most of the time, they hardly even seem like “weekends”. Generally my husband has a game, sometimes two, occasionally three (if you can even stand the thought). But when we do weekend, it’s worth every minute – which is usually spent finding a new coffee shop, hitting up a fruit market, and a whole lot of outside time with a rambunctious toddler. 

This calls for all of the basics – a favourite jean, a sneaker and my ultimate go-to, a classic tee (added a leather jacket because the weather was that mild that I felt obligated to wear something other than a coat equal to my body weight).

Tobi Collaboration x Oversized Denim

Teddy coats, culottes, see-through boots, latex one-pieces, the return of flared jeans. All trends I couldn’t jump on (cute and all) for the sheer fact that they are predictably short term fads that will clog my striving minimal closet at some point and then in turn be thrown away money. There is however one trend I can handle and it's this.

Boyfriend Knit & Rips

Those sweaters in his closet, you just can't resist. I would borrow my husband's pieces but given our size difference, we can't really steal from one another's wardrobe. I contemplated getting this knit because it isn't exactly a classic but I've been determined to mix and match it with just about everything given it's neutral but easily made feminine tone and cozy style (it is boys after all). I've been loving this shade for it's added colour but versatility. 

Spring Whites + Toddler Life

Spring weather is finally here (knock on wood) and I'm so excited to drop some of the heavier layers. Next to fall, spring is my favourite season. I guess because both are transitional and I love being able to mix and match warm/cool pieces rather then have to completely bundle up or strip down to manage with the weather.

Canadian Tuxedo

I've always been a lover of jeans but ever since welcoming Rheo into the world, denim has more or less been my second skin. The past year has definitely had way more basic jean and a plain tee than should ever be allowed on one human being but it's called "survival" people. 

However, as he does get older (and spits up less) I feel better about getting back into my old style. The denim's not going anywhere though! I'm currently obsessed with the always classic, Canadian tuxedo or as pinterest calls it, "denim-on-denim." You either love or hate this trend. Some people think it's overly retro and should stay in the past, while some people find a way to re-vamp it differently by the week. Me? I'm somewhere in-between. It definitely does have a slight "my mom's teenage photos" vibe to it, but I love the versatility. What doesn't go with denim? And when you're wearing it top to bottom, I mean, come on. 

There are few easier outfit pairings than that consisting of classics. I can pair it with flats and barrel curls for a date to the coffee shop with my laptop and agenda or switch it up with a bold lip and sassy heel for date night. It's even parenthood friendly. I styled an oversized button-up with high-waisted, crop skinnies for a day of errands (finding little organic markets) with the boys. Nautical inspired sling backs made it out for adventures with Rheo and classic back patent pumps had old me feeling a little Selena (and tall, which is so crucial in my life).

This is one trend I will be dragging out of summer and right into fall with me.
