Off-Grid With Cabinscape

It's an infamous theme around here, my suggestion to consider experiences over things. It's right up there next to my "buy better, buy less" preference, discussed many times over the years in this space.

We've been gifting the kids experiences for their birthdays for the past few years and try to implement the same mindset when it comes to other holidays, occasions and beyond.

We've done many staycations, little getaways and even some major travelling with our eldest but nothing has been quite like our latest experience and stay with family-founded company, Cabinscape.

Cabinscape is a Canadian owned and operated company, offering eco-conscious cabin stays for those looking to experience intimate, off-grid stays. Locations range from low remoteness (ability to drive-in and near to other cabins and/or amenities) to high remoteness (hike-in required, distant from other accommodations, towns and resources). Every micro cabin is custom designed and built with everything you need, while prioritizing a minimized footprint.

Discussing Climate Change With Children

Did you know that Maple Leaf is the world's first major carbon neutral food company? If not, well me neither. We aren't meat eaters but I'm very familiar with the Canadian company and am ecstatic that these major players aren't excluding themselves from the responsibility that is climate crisis action.

Winter Beach Outings, with Alice + Whittles

Disclaimer: I’m not an “outdoorsy” person by any means, so when you read this post, it’s coming from a place of understanding for anyone who’d rather be somewhere warm — including inside.

But since becoming parents, we’ve (self proclaiming) embraced a lot of things that aren’t exactly my jam. And for most, not all, of the time — I’m so happy about what the open mindedness has done for both my child’s growth and even more so, our own!

Natural Trench Coat

So, colour isn’t my tool of choice. But I’ve come to realize that texture is! Over the summer I rekindled my personal love for both textures and textiles – with linens and natural fibres being my most favourite, especially for the warmer weather.

Plastic Free July: The Big Four

Minimizing plastic use might just be the most common and widespread, environmental effort or message occurring right now. And it just so happens to be ‘Plastic Free Month’ (every July) so there’s an extra push underway right now, inspiring people to make a change.
